The tastefully furnished and comfortable Cottages at Mel House are situated within extensive level grounds having peaceful sitting-out areas with patio tables and chairs plus picnic benches, herb garden, enclosed water garden with fish pond, barbecue and table tennis.

A converted three-sided low stone barn with double-glazed conservatory area on its fourth, south-facing, side provides an ideal setting for our Leisure Suite. Here guests can use our indoor heated swimming pool with counter-current swim-jet device, spa/hot tub and (coin-operated) sauna. Exposed beams in the barn roof void are highlighted by atmospheric lighting whilst full changing, shower, and toilet facilities are available to meet all practical requirements!

We have 4 holiday properties. Mallard sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms (5 beds), Swift sleeps 5 in 3 bedrooms (4 beds), Owl sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms (3 beds) and Granary sleeps 3 [+1] in 2 bedrooms (2 [+1] beds). In total, we are able to accommodate up to 19 guests.

Mallard

Tastefully pine-furnished two-storey cottage, the ground floor offers open plan and spacious sitting room and a wood-burning stove set in a stone fireplace. The fitted kitchen is separated from the dining area by a peninsula unit with cupboards under.

Also downstairs is a twin bedroom with fitted furniture and adjacent very spacious, fully-tiled bathroom with bath, shower, toilet, basin with shaver socket alongside, heated towel-rail and humidity-detecting extractor fan.

Because the existing ground floor area of the cottage is open plan, this cottage is suitable for an accompanied guest with mobility impairment. Both the downstairs Bathroom and Twin Bedroom have 1.5 metre turning areas for a wheelchair, for example and the bathroom itself has appropriate support rails, thermostatically controlled mixer taps, etc.

On the First Floor, which has partial headroom due to low beams in the eaves, are two cosy bedrooms - One double (overlooking the Village Green) and one twin - a bathroom with shower spray attachment for bath taps, toilet, basin with light/shaver socket above and humidity-detecting extractor Fan.

Immediately prior to our withdrawal from VisitEngland National Accessible Scheme, Mallard was accredited as access level ‘M3-Assisted’ as applicable to wheelchair users taking a holiday in self catering accommodation. We have made no changes which would affect ''access'' since that accreditation was awarded.

Swift

Ground floor Cottage with porch leading into an open plan and spacious sitting room & dining room with vaulted ceiling, feature stonework and standalone wood-burning stove. A door from one corner of the sitting room leads to the fully-fitted kitchen.

Another door from the sitting room gives access to a corridor leading to a double bedroom, twin bedroom and single bedroom with a 1.5 metre turning area for a wheelchair. Also here are a fully-tiled bathroom (with bath, mixer-tap shower, toilet, basin with shaver socket alongside, heated towel-rail and humidity-detecting extractor fan) and a 'wet room' (with appropriate support rails, thermostatically controlled shower, toilet, basin with thermostatically controlled mixer tap and shaver socket alongside, heated towel-rail and humidity-detecting extractor fan).

Granary

Character first-floor Apartment (above Owl) with attractive original beams and external stone steps with hand-rail. Triple aspect open plan sitting-room with dining area and fitted kitchen offering pleasant views towards Levisham to the east and the Vale of Pickering to the south.

One double and one single bedroom (adaptable for fourth guest if required), spacious bathroom with corner bath having hand-held mixer shower, separate shower cubicle with electric shower, toilet, vanity unit with basin, light/shaver socket over basin and humidity-detecting extractor fan.

Owl

Below Granary, an attractively furnished and readily accessible ground floor apartment having an open plan sitting room with dining area and fitted kitchen.

One double and one twin bedroom, bathroom with wall-mounted mixer shower over bath, toilet, basin with light/shaver socket above and humidity-detecting extractor fan.

Immediately prior to our withdrawal from VisitEngland National Accessible Scheme , Owl was accredited as Access Level 'M1' under the National Access Scheme applicable to those with mobility impairment taking a holiday in self catering accommodation.

Locality

Surrounded by open countryside which overlooks the Vale of Pickering and Newtondale and adjacent to Cropton Forest, our delightful village stands in the North York Moors National Park. It is ideally situated for access to the many stunning walks, bridleways and cycle routes to be found in the area.
