Details

Heron Cottage is situated in the heart of Embleton village, within walking distance of several welcoming pubs and The Village Farm Shop. Embleton itself is rich in history, boasting a Norman church, but it is perhaps best known for its stunning beach. Embleton Bay is just half a mile away, a pleasant walk across a scenic links golf course and through the rolling dunes before reaching the sand.

The cottage comfortably accommodates 4-5 guests across three bedrooms. The ground floor features a sitting room with a multi-fuel stove and a SMART TV, creating a warm and inviting space to relax. This leads into an expansive open-plan kitchen, dining and additional sitting area, also equipped with a SMART TV. From here, the back door opens onto a patio with a garden table and chairs, leading up a step to the lawn. Also on the ground floor is a full bathroom with a separate shower, perfect for washing off the sand after a day at the beach, as well as a small utility room.

Upstairs, accessed via a contemporary glass and oak staircase, there is a spacious master bedroom with a king-size bed and ample storage. The second bedroom features a double bed, suitable for two guests, while the third bedroom contains a built-in single bed, which is full size and can comfortably sleep an adult. This room also provides additional storage space. A second shower room completes the upstairs accommodation.

A period property, Heron Cottage is presented in a tasteful and complementary style, blending traditional character with modern comfort. Up to two well-behaved dogs over the age of one year are welcome. The cottage is a no smoking property.

For convenience, there is off-street parking for two cars at the front of the property, with additional free parking available in nearby streets.

The walk from the cottage through the village and down the hill to the beach takes around 10-15 minutes. At the bottom of the hill, you’ll find Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Clubhouse before crossing the links course and dunes to reach the sand. Once on the beach, you can follow England’s Coastal Path in either direction. Heading right takes you past the dramatic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle, towards Craster and beyond. Walking left leads to Low Newton, home to The Ship Inn, a charming pub, and further along to Beadnell.

For dining and drinks close to the cottage, the Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel offers a dog-friendly lounge and bar, along with a beer garden. The Grey’s Inn, a traditional village pub, provides another great option. The Village Farm Shop is a fantastic spot to pick up local produce, including the highly recommended sausage and Bombay rolls.

The surrounding area is rich in historical and recreational attractions. Alnwick Castle and Gardens are a must-visit for Harry Potter fans, while Lilidorei, the world’s largest children’s playground, is located nearby. Other highlights include Bamburgh Castle, the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, and the Farne Islands, which offer seasonal boat trips from Seahouses, perfect for birdwatchers and nature lovers. The Northumberland Coastal Route is dotted with charming villages, historic castles and fantastic food and drink spots, providing endless opportunities for exploration.
