Symondsbury Manor is a stunning Dorset manor house situated along the glorious Jurassic Coast. Blending colourful contemporary furnishings with traditional pieces, the manor offers the charm and history of a country house without the formality, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Hidden behind ancient trees, the honey-colored Tudor manor reveals playful touches, like a white unicorn peeking over a hedge, hinting at the relaxed style within. Guests enter through an oak door into a beautifully wood-paneled ballroom, perfect for games, parties, music (with a grand piano), or simply letting kids run free. A few steps lead to an open-plan living space filled with light from French windows that open onto the garden. Here, a grand dining table—watched over by a 1960s film prop cupid—comfortably seats everyone, while cozy sofas are arranged around a wood burner with limitless logs, ideal for gathering with a drink in hand, rain or shine.
The manor is adorned with original artwork by renowned artists such as Jean Cocteau, Ralph Steadman, Bruce McLean, and more. The charming country-style kitchen features old pine, a Belfast sink, a 4-oven AGA, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, and a pantry stocked with fridges and ample cooking equipment. Symondsbury Manor sleeps up to 22 guests across 11 uniquely decorated bedrooms—7 with double or king beds and 4 with twins—boasting features like four-poster beds, ornate French frames, hand-painted headboards, and curated books for bedtime reading. There are 4 bathrooms, with several bedrooms offering freestanding baths or en-suites. Under the eaves, two linked double bedrooms make an ideal family space.
Outside, French windows open onto a terrace overlooking gardens brimming with vines, roses, and views of the village church. Guests can enjoy croquet and badminton on the lawns, relax in garden chairs, or savor alfresco meals at the built-in stone BBQ. Children can unplug by exploring the pond, meeting chickens in the hen house, or playing on the fairground horse suspended from an old oak.
Up to three well-behaved dogs are welcome for an additional £25 per dog, with a polite request to keep them out of bedrooms and carpeted areas.
Located just outside the market town of Bridport, Symondsbury Manor is close to independent shops, pubs, cafes, and restaurants. Whether you’re into cycling, golf, walking, beach days, mackerel fishing, or windsurfing, the area has it all. Explore 300 miles of coastal and countryside footpaths, including the South West Coast Path, and discover the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site just a mile away. Nearby seaside towns like Charmouth, Lyme Regis, and West Bay offer fossil hunting and classic seaside fun, while a climb up Colmer’s Hill, right outside the manor, rewards with breathtaking panoramic views of Dorset’s stunning landscape.
