Details
Karrageen is a family-run, pet friendly, caravan and camping park near Salcombe on the picturesque South Devon coast, situated in a scenic valley surrounded by National Trust-protected coastline. Located just a mile from the charming fishing village of Hope Cove with its sandy beaches and rock pools and four miles from Salcombe, often celebrated as one of England's most beautiful estuaries, Karrageen offers an idyllic escape for nature lovers.
Designed for peace and relaxation, Karrageen doesn’t have a club, bar, or playground but instead provides ample open spaces for children to play safely and a well-stocked shop featuring fresh daily baguettes, pastries and croissants. The park welcomes touring caravans, motor caravans and tents of various sizes, with bookings recommended during school holidays due to high demand.
Karrageen’s two fields offer a total of 70 pitches, 20 designated for touring caravans. The main five-acre field, with terraced, tree-lined pitches for privacy and views across the valley and sea, is ideal for family camping. In August, additional pitches open on the Top Field, boasting breathtaking sea views. The smaller adjoining caravan field provides five sloping pitches, all with hook-ups and water points, alongside luxury two-bedroom static caravans available for hire.
The facilities include a modernised, eco-friendly toilet block, with solar-heated showers and amenities tailored for families and individuals with disabilities. The utility room offers dishwashing sinks, washing machines, a tumble dryer and additional conveniences like a microwave and USB charging points. Guests can also enjoy a library exchange.
Karrageen’s shop is stocked with the essentials, including fresh local produce, dairy, baked goods, camping gear and a selection of local beers, ciders and wines. For added convenience, the park features WiFi and offers guests a brief introduction to local attractions upon arrival. A highlight of Karrageen is its own mineral-rich spring water, UV-filtered for quality. To conserve this precious resource, a small charge applies for showers and hot water, helping to minimise queues and ensuring everyone can enjoy this unique feature of the park.
