Fawcett Mill offers self catering accommodation sleeping 16 to 20 people located just outside of Orton in Cumbria. Our stunning cottages is situated midway between The Lake District & Yorkshire Dales National Parks, making it a haven for walkers looking to explore this stunning area.

On the ground floor Fawcett Mill has a large lounge; a large communal dining/living area with adjoining “Nook”, arranged so that all the party can dine in the same area; two kitchens, the smaller of which is often set up as ‘the bar!’, a sauna, a shower room & a bathroom with shower. In the lounge, there are large comfy sofas, a log burner fire, a 40 inch slim line Freesat LCD TV, & DVD & CD players. There is a pine table & 4 chairs. The dining/living room has an open fire Victorian range with a warming oven. There are scrubbed pine dining tables & violin backed dining chairs to seat the Whole party. The adjoining “Nook”, with a stand alone Rayburn Range hob & oven, can either be incorporated into the main dining area or set up as a separate dining area for 4/6 people. It has a small TV/DVD player & is ideal for separating & entertaining a group of children away from, but close to, the main party. The main kitchen, directly off the dining room, has an electric hob & oven, American style fridge/freezer, microwave & dishwasher. The smaller kitchen has an electric hob & oven, fridge, dishwasher & washing machine.

The first floor consists of three double bedrooms, two with four poster beds, one of which is en suite with bath & shower. There is a twin bedroom & shower room.

On the second floor, there are three twin bedrooms, one of which has an additional 2 bunk beds often making it attractive as a “family” room. There is a lounge with a sofa & futon both of which can be turned into double futon/sofa beds. There is a Freesat TV.

The front door through the porch leads onto terraces overlooking the stream.

Fawcett Mill is an idyllic gathering place for a large family or group of friends. It is perfect for reunions, celebrations & get togethers; Christmas, New Year, Easter celebrations, half terms or for just a relaxing break away from it all.

The local village is Orton, one and a half miles away. It is a lively village with its own village school, church, Post Office shop, pub/hotel [The George], a teashop and a chocolatier chocolate factory with attached teashop. The George, with log fires in winter and good pub food, offers Fawcett Mill guests, who book in advance for a party of 10 plus, discount on meals. The Coast to Coast walk passes through the village & there are many interesting shorter local walks from here on the Moors, Orton Scar and the very quiet Howgill Mountains.

The village also has a farmers market, one of the first established in Cumbria, which takes place on the 2nd Saturday each month, 9.30 am to 2 pm.
